MLK Day: Organizing for Social Change with Stacy Walker (DuPage United)

Sunday, January 21, 2024 11 Sh'vat 5784

10:30 AM - 11:45 AMSocial Hall

Congregation Etz Chaim’s Social Action Committee announces our Martin Luther King Day Program Speaker:

Stacy Walker, DuPage United Associate Organizer, will describe how to achieve positive social change through Community Organizing.

Broad-based community organizing can be described as affecting positive change through building community relationships. It is probably the least understood of the 4 proven methods to effect social change (the other 3 being activism, political lobbying, and social service programs). Dr. King was an expert in such organizing methods, which remain central to securing the passage of civil rights legislation.

Reverend Stacy Walker will teach us how community organizing, when done right, can achieve lasting social justice and will tell stories of success and ongoing efforts from around the region and here in DuPage County.

CEC is a founding member of DuPage United (which is 1 of 5 Chicago area Industrial Areas Foundations). Today, we are one of more than 30 DuPage United member institutions, most of which are faith-based, including Christian, Jewish, and Muslim houses of worship.

DuPage United focuses on building long-term relationships within the public, private, and civic sectors alongside the help and support of its own member organizations.
