Etz Chaim is back to supporting DuPage PADS in its essential mission to provide shelter, food, and critical support services for the homeless in our county!

Please join the Social Action Committee in preparing meals on four Sundays this summer and fall for DuPage PADS, a 35-year-old social service agency fighting homelessness in our community. The meals will be delivered to the former hotel in Downers Grove where DuPage PADS clients now live.

If you have any questions, please contact Meryl Diamond at homes@meryldiamond.com.

One question you may have we can answer: why aren’t the PADS clients back in our building? We know many of you volunteered when we hosted them in our social hall each Sunday and cooked and served dinner for them once a month, but once the pandemic struck, the organization pivoted to housing them in local hotels which were otherwise mostly empty.
With major help from DuPage County (which contributed $5 million) and many generous donors (including Etz Chaim from our previously accumulated PADS donations), DuPage PADS bought and renovated the former Red Roof Inn on Butterfield Road down Highland Avenue from our building. This new center, which opened last year, has 130 rooms that temporarily house over 200 clients in private rooms and ends the need for them to travel from one house of worship to another every day. They receive much needed support services in the privacy of their own rooms to help them safely get back on their feet.

DuPage PADS also accepts direct donations (both online money donations and food donations at their main offices in Wheaton) and has several other volunteer roles to fill.

The Social Action Committee thanks our community members for their past and future support of DuPage PADS! Look forward to more upcoming dates to cook throughout the year.
