Speaker Program: Immigration & Helping Local Asylum Seekers

Hear about the status of the US Immigration System, and what we can do to help asylum seekers in our local community.


Garry Gardner Memorial Empty Bowls: Homemade Soup Lunch Benefit
11:45 AM - 1:00 PM 
Lunch is soup and bread, plus there will be a bake sale to benefit the Special Olympics. Empty Bowls proceeds benefit local social service agencies providing food and shelter.
Cost: $18 per adult and $12 per child (small children are free) ($54 maximum)
Now with donation matching! An anonymous donor has offered to match Empty Bowls donations from new donors up to $2500!


Afternoon Volunteer Activities
1:00 PM - 2:15 PM
Embrace the spirit of tikkun olam by helping with any of a variety of service projects:
Gratitude Generation: making 'plarn' from plastic grocery bags for water-resistant sleeping mats. The mats (made off-site) will go to people experiencing homelessness in the Chicagoland area
Foster Love: Help decorate and fill duffle bags for local kids and teens in foster care (so they don't have to use garbage bags).
Bridge Communities: Create birthday, thank you, and get well cards for the Bridge Communities transitional housing clients.
Friends of the IDF Lone Soldier Program: Write cards to American soldiers serving in the IDF


Blood Drive

Give blood and observe one of our most sacred values: pikuach nefesh, or saving a life. Schedule an appointment.

Winter Clothing Drive (January 12 - January 19)
Collect winter gear packs for the JUF’s Nourish Our Neighborhood drive. Donations will benefit the People's Resource Center. Register with JUF to participate.

NCJW Collection Drive for Domestic Violence Shelters (January 19 - January 31)
Bring hygiene products and other items to support local domestic violence shelters. Requested items include:
- Shampoo, Conditioner, Body Wash (full-sized)
- Toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss (full-sized)
- Bars of soap, body lotion, deodorant (full-sized)
- Socks (kids and adult women sizes)
- New coloring books, crayons/markers, small toys, stuffed animals

Knit for a Cause
Knit hats, scarves, and gloves for residents of Mutual Ground Aurora, a local domestic violence shelter. Email Patricia Rosenmann for more information.
