Lifecycle at Etz Chaim

At Congregation Etz Chaim, we are honored to guide you through life’s most meaningful transitions. As the only Reform synagogue serving the western suburbs of Chicago across 96 zip codes, our rabbis and community support you with warmth, wisdom, and tradition as you mark these important milestones.

Baby Namings / Brit

When we have a new addition to our families, we want to impart our message and mission to our children, little by little. At Congregation Etz Chaim, we celebrate this beginning through Brit Milah (Covenant of Circumcision) for sons or a beautiful baby naming ceremony for daughters.

Consecration

We formally welcome our youngest students and those new to our congregation into our learning community. This ceremony is for kindergarten through third-grade students after completing their first year of religious school. Children receive a certificate and blessing under the chuppah as part of a group celebration.

B’nai Mitzvah

B’nai Mitzvah is a significant milestone where a young person (usually at age 13) expresses how their learning and experiences have shaped the Jew they are becoming. Our comprehensive preparation program ensures your teen is ready to lead services and become a full member of our Jewish community.

Confirmation

Our 10th graders spend their final formal year of education at Etz Chaim exploring their Jewish identity. The journey culminates in a community celebration where students help lead services and affirm their ongoing commitment to Jewish life alongside their peers.

Weddings

Create lasting memories in our beautiful sanctuary. Our facility offers an intimate setting for your special day, and our rabbis are available to officiate meaningful ceremonies that honor your love and Jewish tradition, including interfaith and same-sex unions.

Remembrance

During life’s most difficult moments, we provide compassionate support. From funeral services and Shiva minyans to Yahrzeit and Yizkor observances, our rabbis and community are here to help you navigate loss with dignity, tradition, and comfort.
